3.7 Mercarb question

3.7 165 Merc, will start and idle fine, but have issues with the low speed circuit (I'm thinkin') . Have a surge/stalling at low engine speeds, and engine wants to stall when backing off from higher rpm. The engine will accelerate fine once past the low rpm bog. If I "pump" the throttle, the engine picks right up fromm idle spped. No "pump", I get a cough, and maybe the engine will stall. Re-starts okay after stall.


So...should I rebuild the carb with a rebuild kit, or is/are there adjustments on this carb that could be made to correct this? I am an EFI guy, and this whole carb thing is throwing me for a curve. LOL..

i just went thru the same thing and i rebuilt my carb and now have no trouble what so ever you may get away with a good cleaning but why not rebuild it while its apart you wont have to worry about it later that way. good luck and let us know how it goes.

if idle speed is too low that is what happens, check idle rpm should be 650-700
