Has anyone taken one of these apart and replaced seals?

I checked engine compartment after last run and noticed the fluid all over the motor. Couldnt pinpoint where it came from. I replaced a hose to the cooler that had a split but dont think thats where it came from. I am assuming the shaft seal or maybe it blew out the cover/ dipstick maybe...
I ordered a new cover but not much info on the pump seals or how replaceable they are. I have 2 spare pumps but they are 40 years old also and who knows their condition.

I removed it and inspected the body, thought maybe the tank was split near the hose barb but didnt see any issues

Oh, interesting.. Thanks
So NAPA or online? Nothing marine specific on these pumps then?
just google saginaw canned ham pump rebuild

its the worlds most used power steering pump used on GM, Ford, Jag, rolls royce, some mercedes, some BWM, tractors, industrial equipment, etc. only thing marine is its installed in a boat.

make sure to re-use the PRV that is currently in the pump.

check all your hydraulic lines as well, the actuators can also leak but that would make a mess back by the transom mount.

Yes, I replaced one that was getting sketchy. All the mess seemt to be forward and on top of the motor.
Thats why I was wondering if it could possibly be a failed cap. Looks like it maybe vents under pressure... not quite sure how it works, has a spring on it.

So any of these seal kits on ebay will be fine? Dont want to go through all the trouble and install a pos kit..
Does the PRV go bad? Im sure you say use the original because its somehow different than the automotive one.

There are 7-10 different PRVs. Some are only 700psi, some are 2500 psi. The marine steering system is about 1100 psi. That is why you should reuse your PRV
