Hey guys. I just picked up a 15-amp 3-bank charger. I have a 24-volt trolling system (2 batteries in series). The charger has 3 sets of leads. What do I do with the third set of leads? The manual is not so clear.

Thanks in advance

You also have a starting battery do you not? Connect the third output to it.

Re: 3-bank charger - 2 batteries

I was hoping to avoid connecting it to the starting battery. a) It doesn't need to be, and b) running the cables from the trolling batteries (I would mount the charger there) to the starter battery would be a huge pain.

I read something (it's a little vague) that suggests connecting two sets of leads to the same battery (ie. lead 1 = battery 1, leads 2&3 = battery 2). Does that seem right?

Thanks again

connect the 2 extra leads to one of the trolling batteries. all it will do is cause that battery to charge faster. or you could always put a backup battery on your boat and hook it to that......better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Re: 3-bank charger - 2 batteries

Thanks for the responses guys. Turns out the charger is intelligent enough to only use 2 banks. When you fire it up you configure each battery connection based on the battery type. If there is no battery on the number 3 leads then you tell it there is no battery. Pretty slick.

Basscat, I agree with your statement about needing the battery! Couldn't be more true with a starting mattery on a stern drive. But I already have 3 batteries - no place for another.

Thanks again
