Going to look at a used Sears outboard. The person told me he thought it was a 1986. The last time he ran it was 2 years ago. If it needs a water impeller or anything else, can parts be found? Sorry, I don't know model # yet. He is asking $125.00, if this motor runs good, is this a decent buy, or should I stay away from a Sears outboard?
thanks.

If this is an Eska built motor they are a fair entry level motor. But they vibrate are somewhat noisy and under powered. Some ignition parts are difficult to find and expensive. If it was mune to do I would save the money toward the marvelous little Evinrude/Johnson 3hp made for many years dating back to the 50s.This is a smooth quiet and dependable motor.Routine parts are readily available all the way back. Some right here at Iboats.

I believe Tanaka is out of business. It doesn't use a water pump. as the powerhead is air cooled. The 3 hp has a sort of cintrifical clutch under the power head that I believe can be problematic both in operation and service. Some 3hp have electronic ignition I don't know about the reliability or availability of ign. parts. You might check the net for parts availability.
