3 Hp Johnson-what Is It Worth?

My brother recently passed away and his widow has asked me to try and sell this motor for her. It is a Johnson 3hp long shaft motor. #JHL23A. It seems to be in great shape. It has not been run in a few years. I took the top cover off and everything looks brand new. Nothing appears to be broken and she says it worked fine a couple of years ago. Can someone tell me what value range it should sell for. Thanks

I can tell you that the value will be greatly increased if you can verify it's operation. People aren't willing to through too much $ at a rishly purchase. I don't know the year of your motor. I shelled out $400 for an '88 4HP last year in guarenteed perfect running condition.

That is a 1968 engine, almost 40 years old, but one of the best small outboards ever made.

As is, you should have no trouble getting $150-$200, but in demonstrable running condition it should bring about $300.

Those motors must be gold in Texas. Up here a good runner will fetch up to $300 CDN.

I just put a JH (straight drive) Lower on one of my 3hp Weedless...now I have 2 that I have zero plans to sell.
Best motors made! $250 or keep it

Get it running. It's worth twice as much running as not running. Everyone says their outboard ran a few years ago. It's not a selling point. There's lots of info here on waking a sleeping outboard.

get it running like they say. Won't cost much for a new impeller and carb kit new plugs. Around here not running about 50-75 dollars. Running in good condition 3-400.
