How do you change the bugger? The belt goes around the front motor mount. Does the engine need to be jacked up and held in place while the mount is removed? If so, how do you realign the engine unless you have the proper tools?

I have a 1994 3.0 liter mercruiser and you just loosen the alternator and put the belt on. But i do not have a fan belt.

It's an MCM 140, built in 1984. The old 140 HP motor, before they downgraded it to 135 HP. Maybe I should have called it a drive belt instead of a fan belt. It drives the alternator and water pump. The port side motor mount goes right through it, so if you merely loosen the alternator it will come off the sheaves but it still can't be removed without cutting it!

So the other side of the motor mount that bolts to the block is enough to hold the engine while doing the change? That is a relief. I envisioned the need to have the engine supported from my ceiling to change the belt.

I have an 81 165 hp straight 6 with the same front motor mount. Do these instructions apply to that motor also?

Thanks Don.

Thank you very much. I have a shop manual, but this isn't covered. I knew that spacer needed to come out, but like the last post, I wasn't sure if the stbd mount would hold the motor.

My only other question is what are the toque specs on the spacer bolts?
