3 piece Y -pipe 1981 Mercriuser V8 flappers location ?

replacing 1981 305 block with a .30 over 5.7L re-man motor and cannot find where the exhaust flappers aka water gates go. We found some of the reminents in the lower unit. Water injeston killed the last motor.

They usually go at the top of the Y pipe. Pull the rubber connector hoses between the Y pipe and the elbows (you will have to pull the elbows probably.

thanks cr2k---I could not find any mounts/ indentions for them on the top of Y-pipe and not sure how the are attached.

Your service manual should show the location of your exhaust shutters....

Water shutters in the 3 piece set up are at the junction of the centre piece and each of the 2 'arms'... Right down at the bottom of the 'Y'....

Yup, remove the 3 allen-bolts that hold the three sections together. The shutters will be located inside.
