Hello all,

I have a 1981 60HP Johnson Sea-Horse. I also got an OMC Control Box with the newer cable style for the control box end.

I was wondering what the 3 Prong Female plug is for just below my control friction knob? It looks like a face. Two holes on the top and one hole on the bottom in the middle.

Is there an accessory I can purchase for my engine electronics? If so what is it and is it worth buying?

That is a connector for a "plug in" type tachometer. One socket is 12v when the key is on, one is a ground, one is the pulse lead (sensor) for the tachometer.

Re: 3 Prong Female Plug on OMC Controls

So, all I need to do to have a tachometer is purchase a tach for a johnson/evinrude/omc and the plug for my control box?

Would I have to set anything up on the engine or just plug the tach into the plug on the control and I'll be set?

Thanks again,

I can get a new teleflex or faria tach on ebay for a good price.

Anyone know where I can get the male 3 prong plug for this setup? Do I really need the plug?

You can get the plug at any Johnson/Evinrude dealer in North America. Absolutely use it, it makes the connection clean & extremely simple.
