so long story short took my boat across the straight (Vancouver b.c) to meet up with some family. Going strong with no sounds of trouble, turned it off in a cove, start drifting towards shore so i try and fire her up nothing. Kick got me to a marina find out lost spark. New distributor cap and coil. Fires up, as its 9pm i decide to spend then night in the bay. Next morning starter cuts out replace that start heading back start losing oil pressure find out had a crack in a fitting and was slowly losing oil. Fixed the fitting and oil pressure looks normal, take her out to see how she does. Fires up runs strong for 15 min sounds good. Then has a crackle sound and the engine surges then cuts out. Again fire up the kicker and start heading back. kicker could not do much with the tide flow so tried the 3.0 again fired right up. put it in gear but just, @ 1200 rpm sounds great give it a little more starts surging again. limped it back at 2mph @1200 to the dock. Get home put it in neutral revs right up no problem at all runs great well im flushing it.... any ideas guys having a ruff go here lately...

thanks

Start from scratch and do a once over diagnostic. Check compression. Carb rebuild and filter change. If mechanical fuel pump change its filter as well. You'll find it and the boat will be safer on the big water you travel on.

I'm thinking a fuel issue, not getting enough, just need to figure out why as Rick mentioned

Have had it a couple years new floors and stringers this off season, boats a 74 but the 3.0/alpha one is late 90's/00's. Well the motor was out i had a general tune done along with replacing the risers, so it has new starter, cap, coil, plugs, wires, belts, and risers in the last month

The old girl is looking good, and should have many more years to go, just need to figure out what the current issue is
