O-K, I'm the same guy a few posts back with a high speed miss. The motor runs great at idle and has a hard miss at half and full throttle. In neutral I can rev the motor at the carb and it runs rough caughing and sputtering all the way up to full throttle. At every caugh it belches out a puff of white smoke, it miss's so bad it shakes the boat and I can feel the pulse through the primer bulb. Here's the trick, I can partially cover the carb intake by cupping my hand about 1'' over the carb with plenty of room on the sides and it runs smooth as silk ( in neutral ) I haven't tried this under a load. The book mentions an air silencer, could this be the culprit all the time?Surely the motor should run well with an open carb. I'm running with a # 61 jet in the carb right now. The book calls for a #59 ( I have one on order ) I tried a #62 with no difference exept a slight loss of power at top end.I'm going to try the proper jet and intake cover before going any farther. After that it's to the dealer or tear the bottom apart to check those gears. I would appreciate any help from y'all. 1984 Evinrude 30hp.
