Re: 30hp Yahama on 13' whaler, want more top end, any ideas?
Leave your motor HP alone the way god and the manufacturer intended. If you want more HP it's cheaper and more reliable to buy a bigger motor. More speed from your current rig comes from tweaking the prop pitch and motor trim. Try playing with the trim a little before you go for a new prop.

Also, be careful what you wish for. 27-30 is pretty good speed for a 13' whaler unless you boat on a mill pond. When you up your top speed you also up the minimum speed at which the boat cruises without dropping rpms down so you're lugging the motor.. This may be more of a problem than you might think if you run in even a mild chop much and like to hold on with one hand only

..

you really need a tach to know if there is more performance to be had from a higher pitch prop. Otherwise you are just guessing and you could end up overpropping your engine which will cause it to actually go slower than full potential. About the only advice I can give without a tach is if it really jumps up on plane that suggests you could handle a higher prop pitch. Get a tach or maybe try the whaler chat board and see what other 13' set ups there are.

By the way 4 blade props don't go faster, at best they go no slower than 3 blades. They improve holeshot and control. inch for inch Stainless props go faster than aluminum.
