Re: 310 Cabrio

You posted your original message in June 2007. I assume you have had the 310 about a month now. How do you like it so far.

Re: 310 Cabrio

We bought a 2007 off the dealer lot in August with 8 hours on the clock.

Take a very close look at the lower units as there is a warranty issue with the paint the Volvo used on them. You will see some bubbling under the paint and places where it is flaking off. I am still waiting for the dealer to corrrect the problem which involves taking them down to bare metal and starting over.

Thanks Bill,

Where can I find out about this warranty issue? Is there a bulletin out there somewhere?

How do you like the boat?

Ask the dealer you are buying from. Ours was treated as a "new purchase" and all warranties are valid. I am taking that with a grain of salt right now since Genmar filed bankruptcy and the brand was bought by an investment group. The dealer has committed to correcting the problem so we will see what we see. Other than a loose electrical connection on the genset we have not had any "new boat worries."

As far as the boat is concerned, we traded up from a 1998 Bayliner 2655 and are very satisfied with its room, ease of handling and preformance. We have put about 40 hours on the engines since we bought it and I am going to put flow meters on it. I think I am getting about 1.5 mpg at 3100 rpms which has us running between 28 to 32 mph depending on wind, tide, etc. The specs on the boat with the 220 hp Mercruisers say that 3300 rpms is supposed to be the sweet spot but we have 280 hp Volvos so I am guessing. The big difference is I was getting about 2mpg with the Bayliner and now I have 2 engines. Our normal runs to where we overnight are between 35 to 70 miles round trip.

Great boat.

Thanks Bill,

The one we are looking at also has twin Volvo Pentas.

It is a Repo with low hours, and was wondering if there were any normal problems, other than what I can expect from being a Repo.

Hours? Be sure to get a hull and engine survey. As an insurance agent I always advise clients to have the sheriff's department send a drug dog through any used car they are thinking about buying. They do it as a public service and you would be surprised how many times they get a hit on a used car. It might make sense to do it to boats too.

Have the surveyor go with you on the sea trial if possible. A good in depth survey may cost you a thousand bucks but could save you alot more.

For comparison, we bought ours for about 38 cents on the dollar off of list plus had a year of dry store rent thrown in...

Shop hard because it is a buyers market.

Good luck

Is your 310 Cabrio a Repo? What kind of service/warantee work is available? Is the 5 year warrantee still in effect?

Re: 310 Cabrio

No it was not a Repo. It was on the dealer's floor plan and was sold as a new boat.. 12 months on engine/out drive, 5 year is supposed to be.

Here is it about a month after we bought it. They had to replace the rear bimini so it is not on the boat.

Nice......can you pm me some specific pics? Helm detailing the GPS, and the galley/birth of the Sterio equipment. The previous owner had a huge sterio system, and pulled it. Note the 8" speaker holes...............everywhere!
