Engine Died and won't start. On the lake today with my merc 305 (99 sundancer 240). cruising at about 28 mph after being on plane for a few minutes and she stalled. engine turns over but won't start. temp was normal (typically around 168 on this boat). wrencher at the marina said he could not hear the fuel pump turning on when the key is advanced. can a fuel pump just give out like that? dumb question, i suppose so. one theory is that the temp may have actually briefly raised and caused a fuel pump failure?

thanks for any help

Re: 3200 RPM engine died

If it's an electric fuel pump engine temp would have nothing to do with fuel pump. They can and often do fail like that especially an electric.

Need more info on engine/drive system to be of any help to you.
Year, FI or carb?

Boat hull info has little or no bearing on engine and drive problems.

My fuel pump did the same thing last year run great all day and just died. If your FI is working you should hear a buzz for about 15 seconds when you turn the key that the fuel pump building pressure, if you do not hear any buzz it is not working, after fixing it I was told too always use fuel treatment and change your filters once a month.
