Can anyone who has a 33 possibly post some pics of their steering and throttle setup? I don't know if my motor was set up remote before I got it or not. I am used to a tiller arm but this does not have one. Just has the steering bracket in front. Do you just hold that to steer it or am I missing something. That would mean the steering and throttle would require two hands and that would be next to impossible and still control the boat. The steering bracket has a hole in the center, I assume for a steering linkage. I cannot find any good pics online. By the way, this is a 1970 model

Take a deep breath, sit back and relax. It will take us awhile to find and post the pictures.
I, for one, have owned a 33 and have serviced a ton of them.

In the meantime, you can install a tiller if that is what your want. No big deal.

It was made for cable & pulleys steering. Do you have that in your boat? It will work with modern push-pull cable steering, but poorly.

No actually I prefer to keep it simple but I can't figure out how a tiller arm would attach. And where I might find it. This motor did not come on my boat, it does have all the bracketry to run remote but I just want it simple. This is really just a project to see if I can get it going and give me just a little more than my 25. I use this boat really for short trips so comfort is not a big issue.

Here is the tiller. Wrong motor, but same parts. Tiller goes in place of the small throttle lever and cover #60 & #63.

Is this something I could get from this site or would I have to try to find it used? If so, what year and model is this from?

Yes it was a remote throttle & steering motor. That hole is the steering connection is made.

My earlier Johnson's use cable pulley steering & this clamp:

It slips under the handle & into the keyhole in the center of the handle:

Which appears to be the same type of connection for a 1970 33hp:

And is intended for cable & pulley steering. Available here

Google: Johnson steering connector pulley anchor

If you plan to convert the OB to tiller arm, you need to make sure your motor is 'convertible', I don't think they are ALL easily switched.

if I can't convert it to a tiller steer I guess I'll just get it running and try to sell it. Hate to do that, seems to be a really solid motor.

Hey when the guards turn the lights off, keep your voice down & let me know how you escaped :watermelon:

We relocated here almost 4yrs ago when my wife's parents started having health problems. BIG change from San Francisco, Salt Lake City or Las Vegas (we were in each for 4yrs).......

But not a bad place to be.

How long since you were here? It never really boomed, so the economic downturn wasn't as drastic.

I think FR posted the tiller arm conversion info in his 2nd post above. Look up your motor here, then find the parts #'s you need. Some of the parts may still be NOS, others may be available on ebay used.

Re: 33 evinrude

I have a 1966 33hp evinrude, this link show exactly how my cable and pulley system was when I bought my boat...same setup.
Shift and throttle controls pictures to follow.

The first pictures in the levers.
The second is the throttle cable attached to the motor.
The third is the shift cable attached to the motor.
The forth is just a over all view.
The fifth is where the steering attaches. (behind the gray angle iron at the bolt I have replace my old steering system)

Picture 4 (as taken) right side throttle, Left side shift

Hope this helps
