I posted this in the general forum but I'm new here and this might be a better place to post this question.

I'm new to Iboats and i've been reading some of the threads on restoration projects and extending hulls; this looks like a great forum.

Anyway, after being on the beach for a few years i'm planning to get back into boating and am looking at a 33' hydra sport with a pair of '92 225 Johnsons. Assuming that it has the optimum props, what kind of cruise and wot can I expect with this boat? What kind of fuel economy should it have at cruise and wot? my intended use is cruising and fishing in the chesapeake. My last boat was a 31' bertram that orginally had 454s but i repowered it with detroit diesels.

thanks.

Where you hang in the Chessie? I'm in the Upper Chessie.

Anyway, do you know what pitch props she's wearing?

If not, it is a safe gues that she should be a 50 MPH boat loaded up real good. If your out for fun and not dragging half the shed/garage/tackle shop around, 55 would be reasonable. I'd think a 35 MPH cruise speed to be reasonable.

I can't even guess about GPH.

Hey Philster,

Im in Severn about half way between Annapolis and Baltimore. We're hoping to relocate to Rock Creek by the summer. Wher on the upper chessie are you?

I dont know about the props; just guessed they are "average". You think it would hit 50 with 225 johnsons? I would be more than pleasantly surprised. ok i'd be giddy. I had guessed 35 for a top and upper 20s for cruise. I do know that HS is very efficient. The seller has never had it in the water so he cant answer.

Thanks

Speeds: I was probable being optimistic, but I think you're being pessimistic!

I am way up off the C&D Canal and we have a place on the Sassafras. Been as far south as Kent Narrows by boat.

I've been down off Cape Charles in the fishin' boat and other fishin' boats, too (trailered to Cape Charles).

Rule of thumb gph is about 10% of rated hp. at wot. so about 45 gph at wot.
Twins will use slightly more than a single, but would be hard to find a 450 hp outboard lol.
