I bought a brand new (old stock) Spirit control box to use with my Suzuki DT15. All the parts and instruction booklet were still in sealed bags. After opening and reading the instructions it says for use with Morse 33c Red Jacket Cables but I could use non red jacket 33c cables correct? Is there any benefit of using the red jacket cables with my motor?
The control box accommodates both push and pull throttle systems, I'm not exactly sure which my motor uses.
The control box is designed to mount on port side and I wanted one that mounted on starboard side but I couldn't find a reasonably priced one that I knew would work with my setup. I'm wondering if I can flip the control box and run the cables from motor past the control box and loop back into the box and then it would be pull for forward and push for reverse, would this cause any issues? If it will cause issues I can rig it so the box will work on right side but the outside face will point in toward side of boat instead of away. It's purely for cosmetic purposes for wanting to flip and loop the cables back in so it's not necessary.
