I recently bought a 1957 bigtwin 35 electric start. the only wire harness I could find is a 1960 bigtwin with the double mercury switch I did get both male and female connections and the 60 plug bolts right up . can I just add another wire to the other set of points for the merc switch and be good with this harness on my 35 bigtwin

As you found they are different.

The 57 is 5 pin, and the 58 up is 7 pin. The 2 extra pins are for the ignition kill switch wiring that was added in 1958. You should be able to use the 58 complete harness though and make it work. DO you have a generator?

Sure you can add a wire to the other set of points, and use a keyswitch to kill the motor, or stop button, using the 58 harness, its really an upgrade right. If you need help with a 58 wiring diagram let me know.

this is the motor got it for 275 compression is 142 both cylinders. I already replaced all the seals in the gearcase and new impeller. coils look like they have already been changed but I'm going to have to pull the flywheel for the new wire so I will inspect it more closely .
