I have a 1982 35 rude.It overheated today. As soon as I heard the alarm I shut it off. I waited 10 minutes and it was ok.I have noticed at idle it dosen't shut a good strem out the pisser.I put a new impeller in it this spring. The impeller housing cup had a few wear places in it but the marina mechanic said it should be fine.It seems like if I rev up the motor it will push more water out of the pisser. Do these ever air lock?I noticed earlier today it wasn't pumping as soon as I started it and I reved up the motor it started to ****.

did they half arse it or did they put the complete water pump kit. just an impeller is like kinda pregnant. if the pressure increases with throttle look for a bad t-stat of a half arse water pump job.

They just put a impeller in it. What should I try first? Complete waterpump kit or t-stat?/ I have a manual and am going to do this myself...

Do both signfinder. Get the complete kit and install a new t-stat.

Water pump kit with housing PN 393630..'bout $44.

The t-stat is a little harder to get to on the older models. You'll have to remove the head cover plate to get to it. Clean the gasket surface, install the t-stat and put a new cover gasket on. Little work but you'll be ahead in the long run. The manual should show how to do this.

Ditto on both the above comments. Those grooves in the impeller cup allow slippage on that positive displacement pump ,particulary at low rpms.
