Hello and thanks in advance for any help. I bought the boat about 3 weeks ago and finally got it running. It would not come up on plane so I fixed linkage that seems to adjust timing. Now the boat up on plane has a miss or a skip. it almost seems like it has a tooth missing on the lowere end, but it is not consistent. Could timing be shifting and causing a spark knock? Could I be leaning it out on upper end? Please any help would be great.

Hm.m.m.m, does it feel like you are periodically running over something? If so, it is jumping out of gear and instantly jumping back into gear--till the next time. Caused by a worn out clutch dog in the lower unit. Related to that is the shift linkage and forward gear. It's folly to fix one without at least checking the others.

yes it does feel like that. I guess I am pulling the lower unit? I will first pull the cable off and make sure it is going into gear fully. Is there anything crazy I need to know about dropping the lower unit or are they the same as the rest.
