I am putting a motor together from different parts. I have 1 gearcase from 1984, complete, but jumping out of gear, and wobbling propshaft, one gearcase from a 1977, perfect working order, but no driveshaft. The 1984 driveshaft has different number of splines than the 1977. My question is, will the 1977 gears ( except from pinion gear fit into the 1984 gearcase ?? I never had a gearcase of that type apart, do the bolts that holds the bearing carrier tend to snap ?? How to deal with it if it happens ??

No, the gears won't swap out - they units are quite different internally. Gears, propshaft, clutch dog, etc. are all different...

Thanks Chinewalker, too bad - I will have to open up the 1984 gearcase and try to fix it, then. Hope those 2 bolts deep inside wont snap, then. Are they usually hard to get apart ?
