I got a bargain on a used powerhead, and i looks like I have parts floating around for another complete motor. The powerhead is missing carb, however. I have a couple of carbs from a 1973 25 HP, smaller bore and a set from a 1976 55 HP, same bore as the 1985 35 HP carb. They fit on the intake. Does anyone know if I can use one of the 55 HP carbs, with the linckage from the 25 HP carb fittet ( that part can be done ) Will i have to rejet, i think I recall reading somewhere that the carb is jettet for itself, and not the motor.

I know, this carb is different than the original, but flange and bolt holes fits. The question was if any carb would work, as long as it physically fits on the motor. I remember once reading that a carb is calibrated and jettet for itself, not the motor, and wouldnt know if it was on a 2 or a 200 HP.

Yes, the carb will work. You may, as you said, have to use the linkage parts from the motor you're putting the carb on. You're also correct about the jetting - the carb is jetted for it's own internal calibration and air flow, not the horsepower it's on. Any carb that uses that same base gasket (carb to intake) will work.
