35 HP Johnson konking out

Hi All, I have an 84 35 hp Johnson and yesterday it started acting funny. I was cruising along at full throttle and the engine whacked out, jumped up like i hit something and stalled. No damage to the lower unit that I can see. She started rt up but will only go to about 1/2 throttle before she starts sputtering like its losing spark and then she just stalls out. Neutral is fine and revs up with no problem. Any ideas here??? If the lower unit was an issue which i don't think it is......would the symptoms be similar?

I would suspect something came loose under the flywheel. But that's just a guess. Could be something came loose inside too. Pull the spark plugs and look for any metallic crud in the ends. Check compression. If compression OK and equal, pull the flywheel for a look-see.

just pulled the plugs for a quick look and the look good. I don't have a compression tool so my options are limited before I have to have someone take a look. My buddy is bringing over a spark tester to rule out the plugs and wires so we'll see. Thanks for the advice.
