I found an old Gale outboard on an old boat in a guys backyard the other day, and talked the elderly couple into selling it (didn't take much talking, the woman really wanted it out of her yard). The motor cowling says "gale" but after searching for a cross reference on the model#, I can't find anything to establish what year this motor was made. The model is 35E76G. Anyone know what year this motor is? Omc had no attaineable record of that model.

BTW I found ANOTHER model# (33752S) on the motor, The first one was on the transom plate, which may be an added on by the owner item, different color. It says "soverign" on the engine cowling.

The second number matches a 1973 33 hp Evinrude. The Gale number is for a 35 hp from the late 1950s. I couldn't match the number exactly.

What you have is what they call in the UK a "bitsa." Bits of this and bits of that.

So, for engine parts, you'll be looking at a 1973 Evinrude 33 hp model. For the rest, the parts are more like those on the late 50s 35hp OMC outboards. I don't have such a great list for the Gales, but someone else may come along and tell you exactly what year the rest of the outboard is.

There has been tons of powerhead swapping on big twin engines like yours. It's not at all uncommon to find the powerhead different from the rest of the outboard.

Thanks for the quick reply CATransplant! I picked up the boat and motor last night, and upon further inspection, it appears to be locked up so it looks like I'll be parting it out rather than fixing it up. It's a shame, 'cause it's a good looking motor.

35E76 is a 1976 Johnson 35hp, totally unrelated to the other motors mentioned. A picture may help unsort what you have there.

They come up now.

You have a 1960 Gale 35hp. Model 35DE13B Assuming they haven't swapped hoods too.

I am amazed that somebody has managed to put 1976 Johnson stern brackets on it. I guess they did it to get the tilt tube steering. But probably nothing else about them works.

thanks. It's really a mess with the johnson brackets. they never finished the job, and it isn't attatched at the bottom. But, good news, it's not frozen!
