I'm in the process of repowering my boat at the point of puting the whole motor back together and I was wondering if I can get away with just using a Fel Pro gasket set instead of buying an OEM set for near 200 dollars. I found a set of marine head gaskets for a reasonable price and ordered them and would just like to use a fel pro set for the rest. Do I need special gaskets for the thermostat, water pump, intake and exhaust manifolds as well?

I had to get the special gaskets for the water pump, but almost everything else was in a fel pro kit. The head gaskets have to be special, but my engine builder put those in for me.

What about the exhaust manifold gaskets?

The Fel-Pro set will work fine. You will probably need a specific thermostat gasket, as I suspect your gasket should have a rivet in it for elctrical continuity.

As said above the thermostat housing gasket rivets helps keep the sacrificial anode and electrical system in check. The marine head, intake manifold & exhaust manifold gaskets employ stainless steel reinforcements reducing galvanic corrosion.

The head gaskets I have are made of synthetic material and there is no stainless steel at all in them. Should I be concerned, they were listed for a Merc 350 mag.
