Had to adjust coils and did that. I switched legs with a 1963 till i got a new impeller for it. Speed lever was moving to the left when trying to start so adjusted coils. Now there is a clack when pull starting and occasionally while running. going to put original leg back on today and go back thru the carb. did a rebuild on carb but now it wont stay running. I made sure coils were tight but might be that, i switched recoils and still clacks when pulling recoil, 1 per pull.

Rope it over with the recoil removed and listen for clack.
I predict the coils are still touching the magnets.

just a thought but since recoil from the 63 fits the 65 i might switch the fly wheel too if i still have problems. the 63 fly wheel has the access holes for point adjustment, kinda like that.

major dumb setback. as i was setting up the puller a lively discussion broke out in my man cave garage, three people one my wife and all asking me questions about stuff i'm not interested in. end result the puller pilot stuck to my magnetic parts tray when i lifted the puller. So i stripped 3/4 of threads off the crank shaft before i saw the pilot in the dang tray. Going to try to re thread it but not sure there will be enough to seat the flywheel. may have to go to a smaller thread die but those cranks are hard steel.
