Have to start with the basics, most times the engine idles down quick and dies its gas. If it cuts quick and no idle then its probably electrical.

Have you checked the fuel filter, and when was the last time it was replaced?

Hi guys thanks for the advice. I have done a service and replaced the distributor cap and rotor and the idle air valve. Motor fired up straight away. I think it was the cap that failed. The fuel filter appeared clean and no water in it.. I run two water separating filters as I have one with a drain bowl on bottom as well. The caps on these motors are rubbish. . I have replaced with a merc one but have ordered a couple of the napa gold ones from the USA that seem to be the best according to the forums

Hope you got it, but the IAC would not cause what you saw. Now if your distributer uses one of the crab caps, then I would say that is possible. Either way hope you got it fixed
