351 over heating problem

Yesterday i put the boat in the water for the first time this season. Took it out for a little ride and next thing i know im looking at the temp gauge climbing. The temp never went above 180 because i throttled back and then shut it down as soon as i got back to dock. I replaced the impeller in the drive last season and the risers were replaced 2 years ago. Its a 351 merc with a alpha drive. Thanks

check out your cooling system for blockages or sediment clogging up a riser or the t-stat??
