Just purchased a 77 Johnson 35 hp electric start and previous owner cut the wiring harness at control box. I have the single lever control box with red plug. Red plug on control box has six pins and black plug on motor has five pins. The purple wire (high temp alarm) is the extra wire on controls. Can I disconnect purple wire and use controls with red plug? If not can I remove red plug harness from key switch and connect wires from black plug harness on motor to key switch on controls? Both harnesses have red, black, black/yellow, and purple/white wires. Red harness has yellow/red wire on start pole of switch. Black harness has white wire am I correct assuming this is the start wire?
