1984 35HP Evinrude E35RCRR.

My motor has recently started getting stuck in gear. I'll be going along fine, but on a shore landing I usually shift to neutral, put the motor on shallow drive, shift back into forward and beach it. I usually just cut the motor while its in gear.

However tonight it started fine, put it in reverse and it wouldn't come out. Tried spinning prop by hand to synch everything up (with the motor off of course). But nothing. Acutally leaning over the motor it let go from it's up position and damn near thre me in the lake!

I just put the motor back down, Got it running and yanked a few times on it until the lever popped to neutral. After that, shifting like butter...

But I am wondering if something is worn down and not letting me shift properly etc? Something I should at replacing this winter?

unhook the controls and see how it shifts from the motor. It will tell you if it is in the control box or at the motor. Most likely control box. If it does not have the control box could be the lock out. It needs to be idled down so the lock out will release to allow it to shift. It's so you can't shift it in or out of gear at high rpms.

Sorry should have stated its a tiller manual start. I play the throttle position to no avail. Should shift at lowest throttle position, but still stuck.

Still experiencing this problem. First weekend out with it, didn't even notice a problem. Coming into the dock this past weekend, stuck in forward and couldn't shift to reverse or neutral.

Is there an adjustment that can be made. Gear lever is moving, just not "popping" out of gear.
