Hi everybody, now to the forum... I have an old (told between 1972 - 1978) 35hp Tohatsu and the CDI unit has died. I have looked in the parts manual and it seems that the CDI unit (4 hole) off 30hp will do the job. Can anyone help me out with this. I can't find any serial or model numbers, only part numbers. Also does anyone know where I can get a workshop manual for it? Thanks and hope someone can help me.

Parts for that model engine have not been availble for over 15 years...The CD is not compatible with the one of the later model 25-40 hp engines. That doesn't mean it will not fire...It just means you will put a hole in a piston. That CD is available from any Tohatsu dealer in New South Wales.

The unit that I was looking at in the parts brochure was for an old model 30hp, not newer one. I downloaded a parts book and it seems to be a Nissan. Apparently it is still available. Do you reckon this might work if I can get one?????

The CD that you are referring to will put a hole in your piston.

There are four generations of CD modules for that range of engine size. You had a Gen I originally. The Gen II is gone. The Gen III replaces the Gen II and will put a hole in your piston. The Gen IV will not work at all.
