I like light motors and love the weedless drive on my 3 lightwin but a little more power without extra weight would be awesome, so any way to make this work? Could buy a 5 hp evinrude angler 5502. I have a spare 1965 3502 weedless drive gear case. Driveshaft numbers don't jive though. . weedless and water tube might bolt up. The exhaust housing has different part numbers but i think it has to do with bolt pattern of the powerheads The yachtwin 3hp and the 5hp angler both use same gear case, only diff i see is the gearcase extension on the yachtwin 3hp. the 5hp doesn't use the extension

The drive shaft will be the stumbling block. Angler drive shaft is not compatible with the weedless drive.

always something ain't it. going to look at the 5hp next week, same displacement as a 6hp but about as heavy as a lightwin.

And if you wanted a thermostat, it was available as an accessory "Kit".

Beware: Angler props are about as rare as chicken fangs.

That's partly why i wanted to try the weedless gearcase, didn't think about the carburetor parts . In the pictures of the angler paint is really good, even on the prop, been in garage for 25 years and it's not stuck so worth checking it out.

3hp, 5hp, 6hp carburetors are basically the same and most parts are the same. The difference is the venturi size (bore down through the center)

Looking at the pictures again the prop has a sizable chip out of one blade. going to pass. If they made that weedless with standard prop it think it would have been a good seller. these were only made about 4 years and 4 hp came along after it.

OMC's marketing plan was to build a "quality" motor at a low cost to compete with Sears' cheapo air cooled Eska motors. Didn't work, Sears Eska's continued to sell like hot cakes at no money down and take forever to pay for it on their revolving credit card.

The 5 was built 1965 through 1968, they witnessed the venerable 3 turn into something that looked like the 5 for 1968, with the fiberglass hood & metal pan plus remote tank. When the 3 was hot-rodded into a 4 for 1969 the 5 was done.
