It appears that OMC altered the powerhead for the 3hp the year they decided to offer the fold-up option.
case in point.... the 1960 powerhead on the right cannot be mounted on the 1967 folding outboard that I want to becuase of the collar opening just around the shaft seal is bigger on the fold-away models (the one on the left is a fold-away). see below (click to enlarge)
The adaptor plate that is used on the folding outboards has a collar that fits into that enlarged space. see below
Bottom line is this: a 3hp powerhead from a rigid shaft outboard will only mount to a folding outboard from a year model that offered the option. I think the folding option was for 1964,1965,1966,1967,1968 only.
