3M 5200 Or 3M 4200 For Transducer Screws?

Going to be mounting my Humminbird's SI transducer soon. I need to remove the current depth finder transducer. Fill the holes and drill new holes for the Humminbird.

When I put the screws in, which should I use? The directions say to put some on the screw to create a water tight seal. I understand the 5200 is suppose to be "permanent". But just how true is that?

I may want to remove the Humminbird if I ever get a bigger or new boat.

Use 4200, it's a better sealant, which is what you're doing. ;)

I use 5200 for anything below waterline. It is not as permanent as it indicates. I have been able to remove screws that have used it.

Since I already had the 5200 on hand, I just used that today.

Something I noticed though. On my Lund WC14, the bottom section of the transom doesnt have the wood support. It's only a thin sheet of aluminum. I drilled the proper size holes and used 4 screws to hold the transducer bracket. Used lots of 5200 on the outside and inside the boat. Hopefully I dont get any leaks.....

Hopefully I get to test it out on the water on Thurs.

Unless you used the fast-cure 5200, you should wait till next Thurs before exposing to water.

The regular 5200 takes 7 days to cure. After 2-3 days it will still be very sticky and soft.

Yes, I used the fast cure.

*edit*

I also forgot to mention. When I removed my old transducer, it left behind 1 small hole. About 1/8" in diameter if I had to guess. I just filled it in with 5200 also. I couldnt put a screw in it, because it would be up against my new tranducer's bracket.

Like I said, this area is only a thin sheet of aluminum. Should I be fine with it?

If your new transducer bracket covers the old hole, then I would think it will be fine. The new bracket acts as the primary seal and the sealant in the hole acts like a plug.
