3m 5200

Can 5200 be sanded down at full cure? The reason I had Marine Tex and I dropped the catalyst hardener in the water! So i had 5200 to fill in the old holes from my old transducer. I used a putty knife to smooth out as much as I could, and wonder if I can sand down 5200 so it looks "better". Right now its kind of sloppy.

According to the 3M site it is sandable.

okay good. I was pissed I dropped the hardener in the water for my Marine Tex. Some people hate 5200, but they normally use it for the wrong job. My case, I was filling in old holes from my old transducer, 5200, is perfect for the job. Thanks for the info. I guess I should of went to the website ! Happy Boating!

It was horrendous!

Though, taking the high points off is reasonable.

Your solution is a good one for the transducer holes there, just try your best to flatten it out initially as best you can. It'll certainly save you sanding work. Slob some on the inside of the holes so the adhesive has something to "grab" on to. I have found that mineral spirits is a great leveler and clean up for 5200.

(You could always use a rivet or a small SS bolt along with the 5200 to plug up those holes too)
