Didn't go so well, has been running fine before the rubber boot melted on last trip. Replaced Risers, Manifolds, all rubber tubes for the exhaust, and the flappers. Took the out drive off, changed Shift cable and replaced the ESA.
Now it won?t idle, if it starts, runs fine over 1000rpm's give it the gas; not in gear, just cuts out a dies. Get it fired back up and wont throttle up and dies.

Now only in the water, on land it will idle and run fine, hesitates trying to give it some gas, but will run up.

How long with gas last in a tank after it has been treated with Stabilizer, the ethanol kind, I over did it to a point.

Why did it melt the components? Is the impeller functioning as it should? Does the water get to the engine ok or do you have clogged heat exchangers or other flow problems?

Is the carb freshly rebuilt? How is the fuel supply?

Uh, what year engine and drive do you have?

FYI, My 1st maiden voyage went OK, 2nd and 3rd sucked. Getting it closer to dialed in...

Risers were plugged is why it melted the rubber boot. Thats fixed, ran great that day. Just now its crap, I think the gas may have went bad. Carb, fuelpump, and lines are all fresh. Im going to drain the gas, put some back in, then if that dont work do another compression test. Oil levels are good, its a 88 5.0L Cobra. Its only doing it in the water so soon as there is some kind of load thats when the problem starts.

I know you replaced the esa, but it sounds like it's not right, that will show up in the water because the esa needs the pressure from the water, or did you adjust the shift cable properly? Sounds like when you put it in gear the esa is actuating maybe because of the shift cable. Maybe.

I checked that before I gave up, it wasn't engaging, I only tried to shift it into gear once. So that wasn't it kicking in, When it would stay running you could press the switch and it would stumble the engine. I'm draining the gas now, we will see it doesn't smell the best. It was treated but maybe not enough.

I did make it stumble, thats how i knew it was working and not causing my problems. I check my switches today and they are good. I hope with new filters and gas that was it.

Well it's so nice when you can find what happened. The bottom of my coil is shot, rust and it looks like it blew out. Either way the new Flame Thrower did the trick, didn't even have to prime it. Fired right up and idled funny at first warmed up choke opened, now i need some water. Don't think Ill ever get a used coil again.
