4.3 alarm stays on.... question

Hi guys,

Just got a "new to me" boat and it starts and runs okay but the alarm will stay on until you start it. The guy I bought it from (2nd owner) said it's been like that since he had it and it's supposed to be like that... I told him no it's not.

There is a wire hanging near the distributor. Looks to me like it should be connected to something..... could this be my problem? It comes right out the wiring harness with another black wire and 2 yellow wires. What should this wire connect to?

the alarm stays on till such time as the oil pressure switch receives a good reading.goes out when all is ok so long as the remaining 2 temperature and drive oil reservoir is within limits too.all is well on that front but that cable looks like a spare earth swith.time to get the multimeter out to prove it is what it looks like.ground wire

What year is the engine? Serial number?

The black wire is just an extra ground wire sometimes used for a mercathode system that your engine model did not come with as an standard option.

Depending on year or serial number, The horn staying on till started could be normal due to not having oil pressure until engine start up like dingdongs mentioned.

2004 ow001262

So looking at that chart it looks like the alram "is" supposed to stay on until started. I was confused because I had an 03' optimax before and it only beeped for 2-3 seconds then you started it up

Thanks for your help!
