I am trying to get my 4.3 back in the '87 Sea Ray. I had to rebuild the front motor mounts because of rot so I was expecting to have to adjust them for propper alignment. I was having trouble getting the tool into the back of the motor with the back motor mounts in and snug. I loosened them up and lifted the motor with a hoist and I can get the tool to slide in and out freely. Well as far as I can see the back motor mount is not adjustable.... Or am I over looking the adjustment? It needs to come up probably 3/8 to maybe 5/8 an inch.
My next question is how did the back mount get off so far? I rebuilt the motor which is the reason it was out to begin with. Is it possible I knocked something out of line?

Re: 4.3 Alignment

First off, make sure all the rear mount hardware is in place as in the picture below. If all is good, then you need to lower the front of the engine down which will basically make the coupler move up.

All the hardware is still in the back mount. I lowered the front mounts down and tried it in various positions but it is still a no go. Only when I raise the entire motor up will the alignment tool slide in and out freely.

Ayuh,.....

If you've got the hardware installed Correctly like in Don's picture,+ it Still won't Go,.....

The rear mounts themselves will sometimes Fail,+ need replacing......
