Dont have serial number or exact model of this engine as it is my neighbors 2001 Galstron with a 4.3 carbed engine SX drive. Boat has been well cared for and maintained , essentially trouble free.

he couldn’t get it to run the other day, turned over just would fire. My dad helped him diagnose it, my dad is a very skilled diyer. He checked for spark and says he got spark from coil to distributor while cranking, thinking it was cap and rotor went to local marina to get cap and rotor . Marina tech looks at rotor says nothing wrong this this part have you checked kill switch… of course kill switch was tripped….

so here is my question is coil powered off starter circuit or slave relay during cranking ? So you should see a spark cranking , spark is only killed when key is in run?
any body have a typical VP 4.3 carb wiring digram ? I think it has an EST distributor if that makes any diff.

Ayuh,..... When cranking on the starter, the ignition is powered by the outer tiny terminal on the starter's solenoid,....
When the key is released to run, the ignition is powered by the purple wire ignition circuit,....
