so the saga continues.
anyone who read my previous post about my 4.3 lx with thunderbolt 4 ignition running goog for 5 minutes then crapping out, here is the latest.
i took the boat back to the shop that origionally serviced it... a second time.
please refer to http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=401527
so anyway - after the second time the shop had it.. remember the first round cost 500 and change for new fuel pump
didnt fix the problem
the second cost another 500 and change for various things..
the mechanic pulled carb,
pulled ground wires and cleaned them
and disconnected stereo.
the mechanic claims....
"there are 2 main problems i found...first the ground wires were corroded, thats why it starts missing when you bump the trim. so i pulled them off and cleaned them up. i also disconnected your stereo, you will need to rewire the whole thing, it must have a short in it somewhere. it looks like there has been some moisture in the engine compartment that caused the ground wires to corrode. the second thing is that the carb was dirty so i pulled it and cleaned it out real well. checked all your jets and floats. its all because of the ethanol gas, it ruins boats. i poured about a half inch of water out of the water fuel seperator and it damaged the new fuel pump.. you are going to want to replace your fuel tank with a plastic one because those aluminum tanks get corroded from the ethanol"
now keep in mind if you read the previous post, you would know that i put in a new above deck fuel tank that bypassed the old tank and filled it with fresh gas and new fuel line. i also checked the water fuel sperator, and trust me... NO WATER in the fuel. its obvious this shop has taken me for a ride to the tune of over a thousand dollars because it took the boat out and after about 10 minutes of running it started up again.
he claimed to have tested it and run it for about 20 minutes on the river at WOT with no issues...
my question is what to do next..
keep in mind the boat ran perfect before this shop winterized it last year.
the engine has less than 50 hours on it, and is under 2 years old.
this shop has made some outrageous claims and disclaimers like - "oh its a Jasper reman engine.. those things are junk , nothing but problems." and " its the ethanol, its ruining these boats, Barack Obama and congress has made a govnmt mandate that is ruining all these boats. you are going to continue to have problems because of the gas. if it acts up again you need to pull those ground wires and clean them... that stereo isnt hooked up right - it caused all your problems. you need to pull the fuel tank and replace it.." it goes on and on but basically i have paid over a thousand dollars and the boat runs exactly the same as it did when i took it in. and all the shop has done is make excuses and disclaimers..
so back to the issue at hand.. could it be the ignition module? once it gets hot it starts acting up?
