Re: 4.3 Fuel Pump

Thanks Bondo
Another question along this subject.Would it be better to do away with the mech. fuel pump and replace with a marine electric fuel pump? The reasoning in the first place is,will start fine cold on muffs, will start fine unloading, runs good, can run boat for awhile, shut off snd it won't start. It cranks fine.Checked throat of carb (Holley 6140 4 bbl, marine) no fuel.Crank about 30 to 40 sec and it starts up.Motor runs cool in the 140 to 160 range, has new implier.Pump does not hold pressure after sitting awhile,it bleads off.A friend that is a mechanic told me that he figures pump is getting weak. There is no gas it feed back line to carb as if there is a ruptured diaphram.I read that some have a check valve to stop this but I can't find one in line.drive is a
1991 4.3 OMC Cobra with the Holley 4 bbl.
Any thoughts or help?

Re: 4.3 Fuel Pump

Mechanical Pumps are fine......
The check valves are Part of the Fuel Pump......
I'd be looking to the Carb to see Where your fuel is being Lost.......
The carb Should have enough fuel in it's bowl to restart the motor,+ the fuel pump catches up from there......

Either way is Fine.......
Just be sure to wire the Ele. Pump thru a Saftey Circuit(Oil Pres. cut-off)..............
