Re: 4.3 L. V-6

The 4.3 engine, block and heads are the same! (to the best of my knoledge), which has been questioned as of late! The main difference is the cam! However My son a couple of years ago purchased a remanufactured auto engine for a boat he bought that had a cracked block without consulting me first! I helped him install it in the boat and it appears to perform as well as I could imagine! Seems to have plenty of torgue, and runs out great! Now, would I recomend doing such??? NO, I would at least change out the cam to a marine unit, all Im saying is that it worked for him! Most of the differences are external!

LubeDude

I have heard that the gaskets are also different esp if the engine is raw water cooled.

Cam, freeze plugs, gaskets are different. Block and heads are the same. If you use an automotive engine in salt water you will have problems very quickly without the marine gaskets and freeze plugs. Fresh water takes a little longer.
