I have a 2004 Sea Ray motor number OM660634, and I'm wondering what would be the best method to get the Sleeve and Thermostat out. I also would like to know if they used a metal or a plastic Sleeve on this housing. I am going to attach photos of the Thermostat housing and hopefully someone will be able to help me solve this issue. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

You can pry up on the slip of the sleeve gently all the way around to get it to come out. It usually gets mangled with this method.

The other method is to grab the thermostat spring with a pair of pliers and pull straight out to save the sleeve.

It looks like a metal sleeve to me. The plastic ones are usually white.

What about PB Blaster round the edge so it'll drain down all round and give the sleeve some slideability? Or maybe dishwasher liquid?

The sleeve is brass, part numbers for
806871 GASKET, Thermostat Housing - Mercury Quicksilver 27-806871 - Gasket Note: Must Be Ordered In Multiples Of 5 @ MarineEngine.com

807252T THERMOSTAT, 71DegreeC (160 Degree F) Thermostat 160 Degrees for Mercruiser 807252-2 807252T2, Crusader 97895, GLM 13100 - Sierra 18-3649 - iboats

806922 SLEEVE, Thermostat Sleeve, Mercury - Mercruiser 23-806922

Use PB blaster or equivilent and the do your best to yank it out. You shouldn't hurt the housing and if easy enough you can save the sleeve

When you mention yank it out after a soak in PB blaster, then do I grab the thermostat and pull because the sleeve only rises about a 1/16 above the housing I'm sure you are aware of that but just saying? I am going to the hardware store for PB Blaster

Yes pull on the thermostat first, if you damage the thermostat no biggie, going to replace it anyway. If the sleeve doesn't come with it then you will need to pry it out. Prying on it will probably damage it so I hope it will come with the T-stat.

Nope, it's a separate purchase....

I have put it in a vise and I'll let it soak in PB BLASTER overnight, I will then try to pull/pry whatever it takes.
I appreciate everyones input, I'll let you all know what happens, Thank you all

Agree, see post #4, that's why I listed it in items that may or will be needed

Be careful.. that sleeve is outrageously expensive...
The retail price is $9.90, so try your best to not damage it... ;)

It turns out it was the plastic type sleeve, I think the newer model one piece thermostat uses them but that's only what I read.
Thank's to all of you it's out and and ordered, Thanks to achris for the price range:smash:
