Hello all, I have an 88 stratos with a 4.3 litre, looks like a chevy block. Well it has been smoking for about 2 years now and im thinking about building another motor. I have a buddy that has offered me a good running 3.8 litre for free. I dont plan on just sticking the 3.8 in it without doing some work to it. Just wanting to know if there will be any problems that I may run in to along the way. Both engines are carburated and looks like the outdrive will mount up the same. Will the exhaust risers bolt up to it? Thanks.

If you plan on doing some work to the 231 why wouldn't you just fix your 4.3? Or if you want to have something ready to drop in with the least downtime I bet you can find a 4.3 for a good price if you look around. I think for resale and performance value (and not having to explain to the next guy what you did) it would be best to stick with a 4.3, and probably YOUR 4.3 and just freshen it up over the winter. If it does not have any performance issues besides oil consumption right now then that would probably be the most economical thing to do.

i'm pretty sure it can't happen, but i was thinking it would be pretty cool to fit the 3800 gtp supercharged motor in a boat.

Well it was partly because the 3.8 was free and the cost of gas now. I was thinking the same thing about the next guy that comes along because I myself have been in the same situation.
