I've got a 1991 Capri 2050 with low compression in cylinders 1,3 and 6. Compression in 2,4 and 5 are at 120 and the low three are in the 40-50 range. I am considering a long block from Rapido, all comments and advice are appreciated.

If in fact a long block is needed............I think Rapido is a good choice.

For the price difference between long and short, I don't think it's worth putting any more $$ into diagnosing whether the rings or valves are culprit. I would like to take as much variability as possible out of the fix in one shot (within rea$on). The boat currently starts and runs @ 42-45mph with 14.5 20 pitch 4 blade prop. Replaced non-working tach, but haven't taken out on the water again and likely won't until I fix the engine.

Ayuh,... It's entriely Possible a simple Valve Job,+ fresh headgasket set could Fix the motor....
But,....
If you're 'ell bent on Throwing your money around,...
Buy a New Vortec motor,+ you'll get the Best that's currently available....

I bought an engine from Rapido last year 4.3 L v6 non vortec long block, I have put about 50 hours on it, runs strong with no troubles.

I totally agree with Bond-o. The problem here is most likely valves only.

But if you just have $$$$ burning holes in you pockets, go with a Vortec.

Re: 4.3 longblock advice requested

My brother (the family mechanic) seems to think I should do the wet and leakdown before throwing my money at the unknown...so the next break in the weather I'm going to get out and do it since I still have the compression guage. Thanks for your responses and advice, I'll post again when I get more info...

Gee what a concept. Check something out before you throw it away because you THINK it might be bad.
