Hey guys, long story short boat ran perfect all last year, winterized it & set it up for the winter. Just went to get it running & have some issues. Sometimes it will start & run for approx. 2 secs only, if that, the immediately shut off. I have been able to get it running one time for approx. 2 minutes only by feathering the hell out of the gas & keeping it above 2200 RPM, if it fell below that, it would shut off.

I think I have ruled out the possible fuel pump issue by jumpering the two wires on the oil pressure switch. The fuel pump seems to be working fine. I have put a new set of plugs in it & decided to pull the top off the carb. I am a professional ATV mechanic, but not much knowledge in the marine area. I removed & inspected the jets & don't see anything that was clogged. My problem sounds to me like a classic problem of an atv's pilot jet being clogged. The pilot jet in an atv carb meters the fuel at idle & if clogged can make it very hard if not impossible to start?

Any ideas & suggestions on this one would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks
Larry

Did you do a fuel pressure check? Are you getting solid streams into the throat of the carb from the venturi? Did you change the fuel filters? Did you download your service manual from the stickies (adults only secton)? read the troubleshooting info in the stickies section thank DonS and other for thier generousity!!!!!!!!!! Good luck and Oh yea it's all free

Got a good solid stream of fuel & I have cleaned the filter inside the carb & have replaced the fuel/water seperator filter. I have looked in the sticky section for a manual link for my boat, but can't find one for my year. It is a 2007?

any other ideas??

thanks

Sounds like time for a carb rebuild - it would help to know exactly what you have.....

It is a 4.3 liter mercruiser. It is a 2 barrell carb. Do these carbs have pilot jets in them? A jet that meters the fuel for idle? Or what other parts in the carb should I check or focus on?

Thanks so much!!

It'll have pilot jets, but also pilot passages, accelerator pump passages, main jet passages, etc. Time for at least a disassembly and good cleaning with carb cleaner and compressed air.

Did you stabilize your fuel at the end of the last boating season? Are you stuck with ethanol gas garbage as I am here?
