4.3 mercruiser intake manifold gasket set

I am now putting rebuilt heads on my 1995 4.3 v6 mercruiser....chevy. Now I noticed the intake manifold gaskets I am about to use have one water passage blocked. Is this normal? and if it is, then why? these are Victor brand. thanks

There is no water passage in the back of the intake manifold. The blockoff plate in the gasket just prevents the aluminum manifold from doing the blocking. Hope you have marine gaskets, that block of plate is SS in the marine version. Just regular rust away type steel in the automotive version. They expect to see antifreeze, not water.
