Looking for a new prop, primarily for wakeboarding. I would like lower plane speed, better midrange performance, better hole shot, and more stern lift/less bow lift. Stepping up to 4 blades seems to cover all of these. I am not concerned about going faster but don't want to lose much on the top end. Current Prop is a 17" aluminum Mercury Black Max:
WOT RPM: 5,000 (Accurate Tach, target 4400-4800)
WOT MPH: 40 MPH (GPS)
Gear Ratio: 1.84:1
Slip: 9%
The Solas line of AL and SS Rubex HR4, and HR Titan 4 seem to get great reviews. Is there much incentive for me to jump to a SS? Also, would a 4 blade 19" be a little much for this motor to turn or should I stick with a 17" 4 blade?
I am also planning on putting on some smart tabs, but I am not sure how much that affects prop performance.
