I have 2006 Trophy with a 4.3 Mercruiser. Just got it running good(amazing how much better a motor runs when the timing is not off by 5 degrees).

I had the boat running on the hose yesterday to check out how it was running after getting it back from the shop. Ran great, but I noticed once it warmed up, there was not a lot of water coming out of the ports. I stopped the motor as I had found out what I wanted to know.

Today I put it on the water and it ran as good as it ever has. No temperature problem, ran great. I was on cloud 9 as this is the first time in 3 years the boat has ran this good.

I get it home and put it on the hose to flush out the saltwater. After about 10 minutes the alarm goes off. It was up around 200 degrees when it normally runs about 175-180. I looked out the back and there was no water coming out the ports. This is confusing because it is a closed system and all the hose does is cool the antifreeze. Why would water stop coming out the ports only once it warms up?

I let it set a while to cool off and fired it back up. Water was free flowing until it warmed up again. It almost seems as if a thermostat is closing when it warms up and is cutting off water flow. I don't know how thses cooling systems work, but they can't be that complicated.
