MY 1990 CELEBRITY WITH A 4.3 LITER MERCRUISER NEEDS A STARTER, FROM MERCRUISER IT IS 250 DOLLARS BUT I CAN GET ONE FROM ORIELYS FOR 80 DOLLARS. THEY SAID IT IS JUST A REGULAR CHEVY STARTER. IS THERE ANY DIFFERENCE? IF THERE IS IS IT GOING TO MATTER IF I PUT THE DIFFERENT STARTER ON? THANKS IN ADVANCE

don't use the auto starter. they are not built completely the same. marine starters isolate the sparks and will not let THE BOAT BLOW UP!!! look for a repair shop that rebuilds starters in your area. if none, do a google search for a marine starter. i hear tha NAPA carried marine parts.

btw, please turn off cap lock.

The cheapest way to go is have it re-built at a local shop, don't use an auto starter whatever you do.

Hey I had to get one for my 5.0 litre mercruiser and the same cost from the dealers. I did a search on ebay and a company out of florida remanufactures marine starters . They will sell you a rebuilt with 1yr warrantee for around $65.00 shipped.
If needed I can give you there link.

I just bought one and installed for a friends boat from probably the same ebay member you are talking about in FL and it was 55.99 + shipping. All I did was took the part number off the back of the starter and put this into a search (title and description) on ebay and it came up. I acatually called them and they were really helpful and I got it shipped next day UPS. It was remanufactured but basically looked new. The only difference was the solenoid did not have two lugs, only the one for the + as it was using the - as the chassis. I just taped up the original - from the boat harness and tied it out of the way. Worked just fine. Plus as LANDROVERTECH said they give a 12 month warranty.
