4.3 MPI stalls when you shift into gear

I have a 2003 4.3 mpi alpha gen II- when the engine is cool or within 10 minutes from starting it ......you can shift all you want (forward or reverse) and the engine never stalls. Now run the boat for 10+ minutes and as soon as you put into gear it stalls-you can do the shift into forward with quick gas and it will keep running -its worse going into reverse. Do you think it can still be a shift cable? I removed the cable from the engine transfer-plate and shifted by hand -it was a little stiff but not bad......any help would be great

Thanks Bondo!.....I am curious: why does it shift fine when it's cold? (I am going to replace the shift cable)

Hard to tell for sure why it only happens when it warms up. You can easily verify that it is a stiff cable causing the problem by watching the shift interrupt switch while someone shifts. If it engages when going into gear, then the cable is either bad or needs adjusting.

Donno,... Maybe it's routed to close to the Y-pipe,..??
I've seen 'em Melt, in a severe overheat situation...
